Regional Advisory Committee

AOGS RAC Info E-booklet

The Regional Advisory Committee (RAC) is established to further fulfil the AOGS vision “In Asia for Asia and the World”. RAC members are AOGS Advocates who:

  • Promote and advise on the allocation of resources and services that will support geosciences research and scholarships in their home countries
  • Provide community-based support in planning and promoting AOGS strategic master plan and processes

RAC Mission is to develop AOGS into the largest non-profit, geoscience networking group in Asia and their main goals are to

  • Enhance membership and participation from the geoscientists in ASEAN and India
  • Promote multi-lateral academic interaction among various research labs
  • Identify opportunities that address diversity, equity and inclusion

Carlo A. ARCILLA
Dr Arcilla is Director, Department of Science and Technology at the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DOST-PNRI).

He is President, AOGS Solid Earth Sciences Section 2016-2018

Jean-Pierre BARRIOT
Director of the GePaSUD Laboratory, University of French Polynesia, Tahiti-French Polynesia.

Professor Barriot is also Distinguished Professor of Geophysics with expertise in Observational Astronomy

Yue-Gau CHEN
Professor at the National Taiwan University, Taipei with expertise in Geology, Geomorphology, Geochemistry.

Professor Chen was President, AOGS Solid Earth Sciences Section 2010-2012

Jitendra Nath GOSWAMI
Professor Goswami is the man behind Chandrayaan-1 mission and currently chairman of the advisory board for the follow-up mission Chandrayaan-2. He is also a Fellow of the three Science Academies in India and a member of the National Committee for Space Researches (INCOSPAR).

Professor Goswami is AOGS Axford Medalist and AOGS Honorary Member

Kazuhisa GOTO
Associate Professor International Research Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University.

Professor Goto is President, AOGS Interdisciplinary Geosciences Section 2016-2018

Jiansen HE
Prof He is Associate Professor and Vice Dean of School of Earth and Space Sciences, Peking University. His research area is solar physics and heliophysics.
He develops new analysis techniques to explore the mysteries of solar, solar wind turbulence, and magnetic reconnection. MHD and Vlasov numerical modelings are also employed to explain the physical processes underlying the newly discovered phenomena. He is also pursuing the possible science returns from future potential space missions, e.g., cross-scale constellation and interstellar exploration, through collaborations within the international community.

Wing-Huen IP
A world renowned astronomer specializing in cometary physics; solar system plasma physics; solar system origin and planet formation; planetary atmospheres and exospheric systems, Professor Ip is Vice-Chancellor, University System of Taiwan and Professor of Astronomy and Space Science National Central University, Taiwan.
Professor Ip is also AOGS Founding President, AOGS Axford Medalist and Honorary Member.

Fajar Adi KUSUMO

Dr Fajar is Lecturer/Researcher at Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science, Universitas Gadjah Mada

Natt LEELAWAT

Dr Leelawat currently works as a Lecturer at the Department of Industrial Engineering, Chula Engineering; and the Risk and Disaster Management Program, Graduate School, Chulalongkorn University.
Natt is also an Adjunct Faculty Member of School of Information, Computer, and Communication Technology, Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology, Thammasat University. Natt does research in Management Information Systems and Disaster Management.

Punyasloke BHADURY

Dr P Bhadury is Professor and SwarnaJayanti Fellow, Department of Biological Sciences and Centre for Climate and Environmental Studies, at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata (IISER Kolkata), India. He is President of the AOGS Biogeosciences Section 2018 to 2020.

Tang-Huang LIN

Dr Lin is Associate Professor, Center for Space and Remote Sensing, National Central University

Tetsuo NAKAZAWA

Dr Nakazawa was Director of the Typhoon Research Department at the Meteorological Institute of Japan and is currently Visiting Scientist. “Ted” had also been Chief of the World Weather Research Division at the World Meteorological Organization and until recently, was associated with the International Coordination Office for the Subseasonal to Seasonal Prediction Project in Jeju, Korea.

Dr Nakazawa was President, AOGS Atmospheric Sciences Section 2014 to 2016

Van-Thanh-Van NGUYEN

Professor Nguyen is holder of the Endowed Brace Chair Professor of Civil Engineering at McGill University. He has been Chair (2009-2018) and Acting Chair (2006-2007) of Department of Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics. In addition, he has served as Director (2007-2017) of the Brace Centre for Water Resources Management as well as Acting Director (2007-2008) and Associate Director (2004-2012) of the Global Environmental and Climate Change Centre at McGill.

Professor Nguyen was President of the AOGS Hydrological Sciences Section from 2006 to 2008. He is currently Chair of the AOGS Publication Committee.

Srivatsan V RAGHAVAN
Dr Srivatsan is Senior Research Fellow at the Tropical Marine Science Institute, National University of Singapore. He specializes in Climate Change

Dr Srivatsan is AOGS Treasurer 2016-2018

Zamri Zainal ABIDIN
Associate Professor, University of Malaya

Dr Zamri Zainal Abidin is a radio astronomy researcher who focuses on exploring the fundamental and applications of deep space astrophysics and solar astronomy sciences. He has been a physicist and lecturer at the Department of Physics, University of Malaya since 2005. After graduating from the Jodrell Bank Centre of Astrophysics, University of Manchester, and together with Dr Zainol Abidin Ibrahim, he established the Radio Cosmology Research Lab Group.
