NECESSITIES GUIDE

Currency Currency
The currency used in Yogyakarta is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). There are plenty of exchange facilities all over Yogyakarta's main tourist areas with majority accepting most currencies. Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, large restaurants, and large stores. You will be able to exchange money at the airport or money changers which are open for visitors arriving on late flights. Outside the airport, only exchange money at reputed money changers or at the banks after checking the up-to-date exchange rates.
electricity Electricity and Voltage
The standard voltage in Yogyakarta is 230V and the frequency is 50Hz. You will need a two round pin adaptor in order to use your appliances in Yogyakarta. We suggest bringing along a universal adaptor for your various appliances.
Connectivity Connectivity
Most public places in Yogyakarta's main tourist areas, like malls, restaurants, café’s, tourist attractions, etc have free Wi-Fi Hot Spots. You can also rent a Pocket Wi-Fi as an alternative way to stay connected anywhere and anytime. The Pocket Wi-Fi can easily be ordered online from a wide range of providers, and you can even arrange for pick-up once you arrive in Yogyakarta. Another more economical option that we recommend would be buying a local SIM card at the airport upon arrival. You can choose from many local Telco providers like Telkomsel, XL, Smartfren, 3/Tri, Axis, Indosat/IM3, etc. Prices vary depending on Telco provider, starting from IDR 10,000 (USD 0.65).
Transport Transport
Most places in Yogyakarta are not accessible by public transportation. Travelling around in metered taxis (E.g. Jas Taxi and Sadewa Taxi) or renting a car becomes one of the more comfortable modes of travel. Most car rental services offer car rentals without a driver at around IDR 300,000 (USD 20) for 24 hours, so you can enjoy driving and exploring the city on your own.
